A recent healing session with a client reminded me of two things:

a) how deeply I love working with conscious parents, and

b) how vital it is for parents to feel empowered at every step of the journey. If we take a hard look at the state of the world right now, one truth stands out to me: today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders, inheriting a deeply fractured world they’ll need to learn to navigate.

From ecocide to genocides, wars, divisive political landscapes, economic instability, and growing inequality, we need a new generation of leaders and citizens who are emotionally healthy, spiritually aligned, resilient, and strong enough to stand up for what is right.

It’s today’s parents who are raising these future changemakers, and I feel so much hope and admiration for every parent who embraces the monumental task of raising conscientious, compassionate children. This is where my work creates the greatest impact: helping parents navigate the complexities of parenthood with confidence and clarity.

Parenting is a journey filled with love, challenges, and immense growth. Conscious parenting, a philosophy rooted in mindfulness, empathy, and self-awareness, has gained traction as a way to nurture deeper connections with our children. Yet, even though there are numerous well researched conscious parenting benefits, this transformative approach comes with its own set of challenges. Without balance, conscious parenting can lead to feelings of guilt, burnout, or even unintentional over-parenting.

In this blog, I will explore not only the principles and benefits of conscious parenting but also its pitfalls. Recent client case study: diving into a child´s past life trauma

One recent case study beautifully illustrates this philosophy in action, showcasing how intuitive parenting can foster deeper connections and healing.

A client came to me concerned about her seven-month-old toddler, who recoiled from being touched on his arms and who didn´t like to be swaddled. She felt something deeper was at play. As a Reiki practitioner she started to give her son Reiki on his arms and she intuitively assured her child he was safe. She even had visions of his past life where he had suffered trauma from being tortured. Seeking further insight, she approached me to delve deeper into her child´s past lives.

During our session, I uncovered a recent past life where her son was a Kurdish freedom fighter in the 1960s, tortured and arms being broken, and ultimately executed by some Turkish men. This trauma left deep imprints, influencing his current life, manifesting as a mistrust of touch. A subsequent life as a hermit in Northern Norway further reinforced his withdrawal from society. Our work together focused on healing these past traumas, allowing him to embrace trust and connection in this life.

I also was given the information that my client had healed three traumatic lives the child had had on her own prior to contacting me. She also shared with me how she had had dreams of being her son and felt what it was like to be him, and in his body.

During our session I saw how her son has an incredible way of communicating with his mum to have her know what he needs. Be it through her dreams or giving her access to his past life information, these two souls have an incredible blond that made me incredibly honoured to witness.

I already had worked with the mum before she had her son and knew how spiritually in tune and conscious she was. She was in a great place to welcome a traumatised soul into the world to lovingly guide him and heal him.

Practical Tips for Conscious Parenting:

In addition to healing and intuitive work, here are some practical tips to help you navigate conscious parenting with balance even though I am sure most of you reading this are already aware.

  1. Prioritise Self-Care: Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Make time for activities that nourish you: whether it’s meditation, going for a walk, journaling, or simply enjoying a cup of tea in silence.

  2. Practice Imperfect Parenting: Embrace the idea that mistakes are part of the process. Apologising to your child when you lose patience teaches them the value of accountability and repair.

  3. Set Clear Boundaries: Boundaries are a form of love. They provide children with structure and safety while allowing you to maintain your own emotional well-being.

  4. Trust Yourself: While resources and experts can offer guidance, your intuition is your greatest tool as a parent. Trust that you know your child better than anyone else.

  5. Seek Support: Parenting is not meant to be done in isolation. Reach out to friends, therapists, or healers when you need help or a fresh perspective

I’ve had the privilege of working with parents for over a decade, and in that time, I’ve witnessed every facet of the parenting journey, including the immense challenges faced by those striving to be conscious parents. Below, I’ve summarised some of the most common struggles many parents I worked with encountered:

The Pitfalls of Conscious Parenting:

In my work with parents, I’ve often heard them share their struggles and why they sought support. Many felt immense pressure to be the “perfect” parent: always empathetic, calm, and present. They described how, despite their best efforts, moments of frustration or losing patience left them feeling consumed by guilt, which often turned into emotional exhaustion. Others spoke about their tendency to overextend themselves to meet every emotional need of their child, unintentionally becoming overly involved or protective. They recognised that this made it harder for their child to build resilience or independence but felt unsure how to find a healthier balance.

Some parents admitted that their own self-care had fallen to the wayside, leaving them burnt out and emotionally unavailable, which they feared was affecting their connection with their child. Many shared how their empathetic and intuitive approach to parenting sometimes led them to over-analyse every behaviour, wondering if every tantrum or outburst had a deeper spiritual meaning that needed to be uncovered.

Another common challenge parents confided in me was their difficulty enforcing boundaries. Their desire to maintain connection and empathy often made them hesitant to set firm limits, even though they could see the need for structure and safety. For some, the struggle was even more complicated: only one parent in the partnership was invested in conscious parenting. These parents often felt alone and unsure of how to navigate the differing parenting philosophies in their home.

A Personal Reflection

As I reflect on my work with parents and children, I’m struck by how often our greatest parenting challenges mirror our deepest opportunities for healing. The mother who feels rejected by her child may be grappling with her own childhood experiences of rejection. The parent who struggles with patience may find it difficult to offer themselves grace.

Conscious parenting invites us to embrace these challenges not as failures but as openings for growth. It’s a humbling journey, but one that can transform not only our relationships with our children but also our relationships with ourselves.

As the poet Kahlil Gibran wrote in The Prophet:
“Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.”
