Rune Reading for 2026: The Energies We Must Embody to Seed the Next Nine Years
Seeding the Next Nine Years
A collective Rune Reading for 2026: A Number One Year
2026 opens a Number One year, the first breath of a new nine-year cycle. What we seed now does not merely influence the year ahead; it sets the energetic trajectory for nearly a decade. This is not a year for autopilot. We are asked to step into intentional embodiment on a bigger level.
When I asked the runes what we need to pay attention to as we seed this new cycle: what frequency we must embody to truly grow what we desire, four runes answered. Three revealed themselves face up. One remained hidden, carrying a shadow yet to be integrated.
They tell a clear and demanding story.
The Rune Laguz: Emotional Mastery, Flow & the Sacredness of Water
The rune Laguz arrives first, and it feels no accident. Before action, before vision, before communication, we are asked to restore flow.
Laguz is the rune of water, intuition, emotional intelligence, and inner tides. It reminds us that emotional mastery does not mean control or suppression. It means allowing emotions to move through us without shame, guilt, or judgement, neither silencing them within ourselves nor demanding that others mute theirs for our comfort.
When emotions are blocked, intuition follows. Just a few weeks ago I was standing by the Baltic Sea, here on the swedish island I am spending my winter in, and I was connecting to the water elementals. They already told me then that suppressing our emotions or only focuing on "high vibe" ones as is the norm in new age circles, will just lead to a blocked intuition and channel.
Suppressed feeling becomes distorted perception. Laguz teaches that our intuitive channel flows through emotional honesty, not spiritual bypassing.
As we seed the next nine years, the rune Laguz asks us to:
Create space to feel, not just function
Become curious about the root of our emotional responses
Release generational patterns of emotional suppression ( if you, like me, have ancestors with addiction in your lines who suppressed their emotions through their methods of addiction, chances are you inherited their traumas and emotional dysregulation and it might show up either as another form of addiction, or as you subconsciously feeling attracted to partners or others in gerenal with an addiction problem, or just emotional blockages in general which can manifest in so many different ways also.
Stop policing emotional expression in ourselves and in others. Of course I am not speaking about emotional tyrants or people using emotional manipulation to get what they want. This, of course, is toxic and needs to be addressed.
Laguz also calls us into a deeper relationship with water itself. Water is memory. Water is transmission. Water is life and it is increasingly vulnerable.
On a collective level, this rune feels deeply prophetic. Across the world we are already witnessing:
Polluted rivers and poisoned drinking water
Water scarcity framed as future risk
Corporate and political neglect of water as a living, sacred resource
Laguz asks us to re-sacralise water through reverence, protection, activism, and relationship. Spend time near water. Speak to it. Honour it. Defend it. What we do to water, we do to the emotional body of the planet and to our own.
Without Laguz, nothing else in this cycle will flow.
The Rune Wunjo: Joy, Inner Child & the Frequency That Sustains Life
The second rune, Wunjo, lands like a quiet insistence: Joy is not optional.
Wunjo is often misunderstood as surface happiness or fleeting pleasure. In truth, it speaks to deep, embodied joy, the kind that comes from inner alignment, emotional safety, and playfulness that survives even in dark times.
In a world currently marked by grief, conflict, wars and collective trauma, Wunjo is not naive. It is resilient.
As we seed the next nine years, Wunjo reminds us:
Joy is a life force, not a luxury
Creativity, play, laughter, and rest are regenerative technologies
We cannot build futures from wounded inner child patterns
If our dreams are seeded from unmet childhood needs, they will carry distortion. They may seek validation instead of truth, safety instead of growth, or approval instead of freedom.
This is why inner child healing is not personal indulgence, it is collective responsibility. A healed inner child creates from curiosity and wonder. A wounded one creates from fear and compensation.
The rune Wunjo asks us to:
Actively tend to joy, not wait for it
Reconnect with play, imagination, and creative expression
Let joy be an act of resistance against despair
Remember that pleasure and purpose are not opposites
The seeds of the next nine years require joy as nourishment. Without it, even the most righteous visions will wither.
The Rune Ansuz: Divine Communication, Voice & Discernment
The third rune, Ansuz, speaks clearly and without softness. Communication is the great initiatory lesson of the coming cycle. It already came up in a nother reading I did at the end of last year. The fact it's being repeated here is very telling.
Ansuz governs voice, truth, breath, language, and divine messaging. Individually, it asks us to learn when to speak and when not to.
We are being trained to:
Speak our truth without apology
Name our boundaries without aggression
Express our dreams without minimising them
Stop fragmenting ourselves to remain acceptable
At the same time, Ansuz carries a warning: words are not neutral. Speech can heal, but it can also wound deeply. Emotional and energetic scars are as real as physical ones.
Not every thought needs expression. Not every opinion needs amplification. Wisdom lies in discernment, not volume.
Collectively, Ansuz becomes even more urgent.
Across the world, we are witnessing:
The rise of authoritarian governance
The suppression of protest and dissent
Social media censorship and silencing: I experienced that especially around speaking up for Palestine but of course many advocates are being silenced in many different ways and themes
Criminalisation of empathy, truth-telling, and solidarity
Ansuz tells us plainly: silence will not protect us.
This rune calls us to collective courage. To use our voices not only for personal expression, but to:
Defend freedom of speech
Speak for those who are systematically silenced
Protect the right to protest and dissent
Become the voice for the voiceless when necessary
The next nine years will test our willingness to move beyond individual comfort and into collective responsibility. Ansuz does not ask for shouting. It asks for truth spoken with integrity.
The Rune Gebo (Reversed): The Shadow of Giving & Receiving
The fourth rune, Gebo, appears face down: a hidden quality, not yet integrated.
Gebo is the rune of sacred exchange: giving and receiving in balance. When reversed or hidden, it reveals where reciprocity is distorted.
This rune ties all others together. Many of us live in imbalance:
Over-giving without receiving
Taking without gratitude or contribution
Serving others while abandoning ourselves
Gebo reminds us that service without self-honouring becomes depletion, and self-focus without contribution becomes isolation.
Before we can show up for the collective, we must learn exchange in our own lives:
Healthy boundaries
Mutual support
Energetic consent
Sustainable giving
Only those who have integrated Gebo internally can hold responsibility externally.
For healers, therapists, coaches, guides, advocates, this rune is especially clear:
You are not here to martyr yourself. You are here to model balance, so others may learn it through you.
Those who have already done this inner work will naturally become teachers in this next cycle, whether formally or simply through how they live.
The Seed We Are Being Asked to Plant By The Runes:
Together, these runes offer a precise initiation:
Laguz asks us to restore emotional and planetary flow
Wunjo reminds us that joy is foundational, not frivolous
Ansuz trains us to use our voices wisely and courageously
Gebo demands balanced exchange as the backbone of service
This new cycle will not be sustained by spiritual escapism, individualism, or passive hope. It will be shaped by emotionally literate, joy-rooted, truth-speaking humans who understand reciprocity.
The question is not whether we will be called. It is whether we are willing to answer and to live what we speak.
The Rune Of Abundance (Fehu)
I also want to mention here that another rune fell out and landed far away from the others: usually I don't read those runes. However, this spoke to me. So many of us, in these times especially, are worried about livelihoods. The cost of living crisis. For those who are self-employed: worries around stable income is always present of course.
But I also have so many UN and international organisation clients who lost their jobs due to the Trump administration cutting financial contribution. Corporate clients have been losing their jobs, leaving families with children and high costs worried about what's to come.
The Rune Fehu is the number one rune that speaks of abundance and financial flow. The fact it landed far away from the others, means that we need to pay attention to all the messages from the runes, or else abundance is only a far away dream or concept to us, not something we will truly embody in the next 9 years.
Abundance is not just money, you see, it's a way of life, a vibration, and money flowing is just an example of someone who is abundant in many other ways first: in this case we need to be abundant with our emotional flow and emotional mastery (Laguz), we need to reach an abundance of joy and operate out of that frequency and we need to be abundant in terms of using our voices, to allow us to communicate abundantly, to stop censoring ourselves unless silence is wiser.
So for anyone who was wondering about abundance in their life in this year or coming 9 years, here is your answer. Tackle these energies first and foremost and financial abundance will flow better.

Frequently Asked Questions About Runes & Collective Readings
What are runes and where do they come from?
Runes are an ancient symbolic system originating in Northern Europe, used for divination, guidance, and connection with deeper layers of consciousness. Beyond prediction, runes function as archetypal mirrors, reflecting inner states, collective movements, and unseen influences shaping our lives.
How do rune readings differ from astrology or numerology?
While astrology maps cosmic cycles and numerology works with numerical patterns, rune readings speak through symbolic intelligence and embodied wisdom. Runes tend to be more immediate and visceral, revealing what is energetically present rather than long-term planetary mechanics or mathematical sequences.
What is a collective rune reading?
A collective rune reading focuses on shared themes and frequencies rather than individual circumstances. It offers insight into the emotional, social, and spiritual atmosphere we are moving through together, helping us understand how personal choices interact with wider collective dynamics.
Are rune readings predictive or deterministic?
No. Rune readings are interpretive, not deterministic. They do not dictate fixed outcomes but illuminate energetic conditions, lessons, and potentials. How these energies unfold depends on conscious participation, personal responsibility, and collective choices.
Why work with runes at the beginning of a new cycle?
The start of a new cycle is an ideal moment for rune work because runes excel at revealing what wants to be seeded consciously. They help identify which inner qualities, values, and orientations will support long-term growth rather than short-term results.
Can rune readings be used alongside modern life and activism?
Yes. Runes are not detached from the real world: they are deeply grounded in human experience. They can support clarity around boundaries, ethics, communication, emotional regulation, leadership, and collective responsibility, making them highly relevant in times of social and political change.
Do I need to believe in runes for a reading to be meaningful?
Belief is not required. Runes work symbolically and psychologically as well as energetically. Many people experience them as reflective tools that stimulate insight, self-awareness, and deeper questioning regardless of spiritual belief systems.
How can I work with runes without doing formal divination?
You can work with runes by:
Reflecting on their themes as journaling prompts
Meditating on symbolic imagery
Observing where similar patterns appear in daily life
Using them as mirrors for inner and collective inquiry
Runes are as much about listening and noticing as they are about drawing symbols.
Who are rune readings most helpful for?
Rune readings tend to resonate most with people who value depth, reflection, and responsibility including sensitive souls, healers, creatives, activists, and those navigating transition or long-term change.
